Privacy first, local first
Your personal Diary, food logs, weight history, workout history, Meal Plans, favourites and Shopping state are designed to remain on your device. FindMyBalance does not maintain a central cloud copy of this personal history. Where you choose to use a feature that needs an online service, we explain that below.
1. Who we are
FindMyBalance LTD is the controller for personal information handled through the FindMyBalance app and website.
Email: hello@findmybalanceapp.co.uk
This policy applies wherever FindMyBalance is available. Local privacy rights may differ by country.
2. Age requirement
FindMyBalance is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly offer accounts to anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
3. Information we handle
Account and identity information
When you create or use an account, our authentication provider may process your email address, name, user identifier, sign-in provider and technical authentication records. Apple or Google may provide limited identity information when you choose their sign-in service.
Information stored locally on your device
This can include your food Diary, custom foods, recent foods, favourites, weight and measurement history, goals, dietary preferences, allergies, Meal Plan preferences and generated weeks, shopping lists, workout history, route information and profile photo. This information normally remains within the app’s local storage.
Technical and safety information
We and our service providers may process device identifiers, app interactions, diagnostic information, crash reports, performance information, approximate location derived from an IP address and security records where required to operate, protect and improve the service.
Search and catalogue improvement
Food searches and selected catalogue results may contribute to aggregated popularity information so useful results can be ranked more effectively. A user-linked, one-way query fingerprint may be kept temporarily to prevent duplicate counting. It does not contain the original search wording and is deleted after no more than 90 days. Aggregated, de-identified popularity totals may remain.
Optional app usage analytics
If you choose to enable usage analytics in the app, FindMyBalance sends a screen name through our secure service. Screen opens are stored as totals without your account ID. A separate private record of your account ID and last active time lets us count active people once; it is deleted after 7 days. Screen totals are deleted after 30 days. We do not collect food entries, weight, Health data, searches or location for this purpose. The owner Admin dashboard shows totals only, never names or individual activity. You can switch this off in Privacy & data at any time.
4. AI Meal Scan, voice and barcode tools
AI Meal Scan
If you choose Meal Scan, the selected image is sent securely through a FindMyBalance server function to OpenAI, a third-party AI provider, for analysis. It is used to return a nutrition estimate and is not added to a FindMyBalance photo library. We disable storage of the AI response for this request. OpenAI may still retain request content for limited abuse monitoring under its own policy. A temporary preview may exist on your device while you use the feature.
We may retain limited usage and security metadata such as success or failure, model, processing duration, token usage, provider request reference and an error code. The photo itself is not retained in this usage record.
Barcode fallback
Barcode searches first use available product data. If an optional AI fallback is used, the barcode and product context may be processed to suggest product information. Product details may be cached to improve future results. Always check the packaging because products and formulations change.
Voice Log
Voice Log uses device or platform speech services to turn speech into text. FindMyBalance does not build a library of your voice recordings. The relevant platform provider may process audio under its own privacy terms.
AI and catalogue results are estimates and may be wrong. Review serving sizes, ingredients, allergens and nutrition before saving anything to your Diary.
5. Health, fitness, location and device permissions
Optional features may request access to Apple Health, Android Health Connect, motion and fitness information, precise location during an outdoor workout, camera, photos, microphone, speech recognition or notifications. Permission is requested only when relevant to a feature.
- Health and fitness information used by the app remains in the app’s local working copy and the platform health store, subject to your permission choices.
- GPS routes for workouts are stored with your local workout history.
- Camera and photo access supports barcode scanning, Meal Scan and profile photos.
- You can change these permissions in iOS, Android or the relevant health app settings.
FindMyBalance does not use health information for advertising.
6. Advertising, consent and purchases
Advertising
The free app may show advertising supplied by Google AdMob. Depending on your region and choices, Google may process device identifiers, advertising data, product interactions, approximate location derived from IP address and diagnostic information. Personalised advertising or tracking is used only where the required permission or consent has been obtained. You can revisit available choices in the app and your device settings.
Ad-Free subscription
FindMyBalance may offer an optional auto-renewing yearly Ad-Free subscription. The App Store or Google Play shows your local price before purchase. Apple or Google processes the payment. FindMyBalance receives purchase status, entitlement and transaction references needed to provide and restore access, but does not receive your full payment card details.
7. Local storage and user-controlled backup
Local app data remains on your device until you remove it, reset the app or uninstall it, subject to normal platform backup and restore behaviour. Where available, FindMyBalance can create a portable encrypted backup containing eligible personal app data and your profile photo. You choose where that file is saved and who can access it.
Meal Scan source photos and other transient files are excluded. FindMyBalance does not upload the encrypted personal-history backup to Supabase. Keep your recovery information safe. Without it, an encrypted backup may be impossible to restore.
If you move between iPhone and Android, a compatible user-controlled export may be used where supported. Normal Apple or Google device backups are platform-specific and are not the same as continuous multi-device synchronisation.
8. Service providers and international processing
| Provider | Purpose | Typical information |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication, secure server functions and limited usage controls | Account identifiers, email, authentication records and limited feature metadata |
| OpenAI | Optional AI Meal Scan and related AI processing | Content you submit to the AI feature and technical request information |
| Google AdMob | Advertising, consent, fraud prevention and ad diagnostics | Device, advertising, interaction, approximate location and diagnostic data |
| Turso/libSQL | Validated food and recipe catalogue infrastructure accessed through secure FindMyBalance functions | Catalogue requests, not your private Diary history |
| Apple and Google | Sign-in, purchases, device permissions, health integrations and platform services | Information governed by your platform choices |
| Google Analytics 4 | Optional statistics about visits to this public website, after your cookie consent | Pages viewed, interaction events, browser and device data, approximate location and cookie identifiers |
| Microsoft Clarity | Optional website interaction analysis and session recordings, after your cookie consent | Page interactions, text-masked recordings, browser and device data, approximate location and cookie identifiers |
| IONOS and WordPress | Website hosting and essential site operation | IP address, request logs and essential website data |
On this public website, Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity load only if you allow website analytics in the cookie banner. Clarity uses strict text masking. These services do not read your private in-app Diary or Apple Health data. You can change your choice at any time using Cookie settings. Details of website cookies are in our Cookie Policy (UK).
Some providers may process information outside your country. Where required, we rely on recognised transfer mechanisms and provider safeguards.
9. Why we process information
Depending on the feature and your location, we rely on performance of our service agreement, your consent, legitimate interests in providing a secure and reliable service, and compliance with legal obligations. You can withdraw consent for optional permissions or advertising choices without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
10. Retention and deletion
- Account information is normally kept while your account remains open and for a limited period where needed for security, dispute resolution or legal obligations.
- Local personal history remains on your device until you delete it, reset the app or uninstall it.
- AI Meal Scan source images are not retained as a FindMyBalance photo library.
- User-linked food-search deduplication fingerprints are deleted within 90 days.
- Limited security, purchase and feature-usage records are kept only as long as reasonably required for their stated purpose.
- User-created encrypted backup files remain wherever the user saved them until the user deletes them.
Deleting your FindMyBalance account cannot remove an exported backup file, an Apple or Google purchase record, or information another provider must keep under its own legal obligations.
11. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent and receive portable information. You may also complain to a privacy regulator. In the United Kingdom, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Visit Privacy Choices for practical controls, or Delete Account for deletion instructions. We may need to verify that a request relates to your account before acting.
12. Contact us
Questions or privacy requests can be sent to us by email.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, providers or legal requirements change. The current version and effective date will always be shown on this page. Material changes will be brought to your attention where required.
